What is BYO and corkage?

BYO (bring your own) allows diners to bring wine to a venue, while corkage is the fee charged to open and serve that bottle.

BYO stands for "bring your own" and refers to a venue's policy allowing guests to bring wine that they supply themselves rather than purchasing from the establishment's list. Corkage is the fee a venue charges for the service of opening, pouring, and providing glassware for that guest-supplied bottle.

In Swan Valley dining and event spaces, BYO policies vary widely. Some venues welcome outside wine with a modest per-bottle corkage fee, others restrict it to specific circumstances, and some do not permit it at all. Corkage fees typically cover the labor and incidentals involved in service, though they may also reflect a venue's preference to sell from its own wine collection.

Understanding BYO and corkage matters if you want to bring wine you own-perhaps a bottle from your own vineyard selection or a regional variety not stocked by the venue. It is worth confirming the policy directly with any restaurant or event space before arrival, as terms differ by business and may be waived for group bookings or specific occasions. Event venues and dining spots in the valley frequently state their BYO terms upfront.
